“We want to give the respondent something to walk away with,” said Ashia, 17, a high-school senior who served as the judge. She got involved in the court because it’s a place where “as a teen, my voice matters,” she said.

Our previous post highlighted some of the challenges the Brownsville Youth Court has worked through since its inception last year. It was nice to see this article (quoted above) from the New York Daily News today, giving an overview of the court, the important work its members do in the Brownsville community, and the warm reception it has received there.
